Monday, 13 October 2008
CAMP ECHO, Iraq – With Soldiers from every company lined up, Maj. Bruce Terry barked the command for attention. Even in the blistering Iraqi heat, the Soldiers of the Lonestar Battalion showed their military precision, even though they are in a combat zone.
Onlookers watched with pride as their colors were removed from its case, signifying that the battalion had officially arrived.
Soldiers from the Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, participated in a ceremony to uncase their colors Oct. 9.
“We are making history here in Iraq. Today is for you to take your place in that history,” said Lt. Col. Leo Caballero, 2nd STB commander.
The colors were uncased by Caballero and Command Sgt. Maj. Wade Myers, the senior enlisted advisor for the battalion.
After the uncasing, Caballero and Myers presented combat patches to their staff and command teams, who then gave patches to everyone in the formations.
The STB’s mission is to provide communications, intelligence, mobility and security support to enable the brigade’s unit of action and accomplish an assigned objective, said 1st Lt. Anthony Zangoglia, battalion administration officer.
