Friday, 15 August 2008
FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces captured a suspected insurgent cell leader during an early-morning raid in al Hillah Aug. 13.
The operation resulted from intelligence developed by al Hillah SWAT and Coalition forces, and was carried out with assistance from local Iraqi Police.
The detainee, a supplier of weapons to special groups, was the sole target of the raid. With his capture, ISF aimed to disrupt the flow of weapons to special groups in the area.
This was the first time the Hillah SWAT conducted a mission in cooperation with the IP, according to Capt. Hasam Karim Su’oad, the assistant battalion commander for Hillah SWAT.
“We planned and conducted a successful operation,” Su’oad said. “Detention of this individual has limited special groups members’ access to the munitions from a weapons cache that was controlled by him.”
Su’oad added that capturing this individual prevents future attacks that potentially resulting in the deaths of civilians.
