Lutifiyah Sons of Iraq paid by GoI

CAMP STRIKER, Iraq – The Sons of Iraq in the Lutifiyah Nahia in Mahmudiyah Qada received their first payment from the Government of Iraq Nov. 13.

The 1st Battalion, 25th Brigade, 17th Iraqi Army Division facilitated the payments at their Battalion headquarters in Lutifiyah.

The GoI assumed responsibility for the SoI program on Oct. 1. The Program began in the fall of 2007; members were previously paid by the Coalition forces.

Col. Moyhe, commander of the 1/25/17th IA Div., was at the site supervising the event, insuring everything was on schedule and going as planned.

“This transition has been a great success due to the hard work of my Soldiers and the cooperation of the SoI leaders,” said Col. Moyhe. “We have paid over ninety percent in the five days we’ve been working and have another two days to pay the SoI that are left.”

Soldiers from Company D, Task Force 1-63 Armor, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Div., monitored the progress of the IA’s paying this group of more than 2,000 SoI in a single day.

“Many of the Sons of Iraq were worried that they might not get paid after the Coalition forces gave control to the Government of Iraq,” said Capt. Landgrave Smith, from Norman, Okla., company commander of Company D, TF 1-63 Armor. “Instead the Government of Iraq and the Iraqi Army performance through this pay period stands as another great example of the Iraqis taking the lead and being successful.”

Thank you for all you have done. Especially for taking care of and supporting each other during your long journey in Kirkuk. I know that a simple Thank You hardly seems like much, but it truly comes from my heart. My daughter, Sgt Jasmin Ringlaben, traveled with you on your journey. You will never know how grateful I am that she came home. Since one person does not fight a war alone, I owe each and every one of you a debt of gratitude. My prayers continue to be for all of you. THANK YOU!
