"Don't Ask, Don't Tell""Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has been recieving a lot of attention recently. Now that DADT is back in the news I am interested in not only what you think, but how should any potential change be implemented? What are the potential Soldier concerns/issues senior military leadership will need to address?

Seeing the Risks? There have been some serious incidents lately involving our Soldiers. I am concerned that in some of those cases we could have seen the danger signs ahead of time and possibly prevented what happened.

We already have an at-risk population. When you mix that with certain situations bad things are bound to happen.

Is there something more we should be doing to see ourselves better to help prevent these incidents?

Afghanistan - Way AheadWhat are your thoughts now that the President has announced the way ahead for Afghanistan - now that we know 1BCT will be involved in the coming surge (and already knew the 10th CAB would deploy there next fall).

I found it heartening to read the article in this week's Mountaineer citing the Secretary of the Army and Chief of Staff both saying the surge in Afghanistan will NOT lead to increased deployment lengths or a decrease in dwell time.

(Moderator Note: This week's Mountaineer can be found online at: http://www.drum.army.mil/sites/postnews/mountaineer/mountaineer_online/index.asp)

Communication - How are we doing? We have a lot of venues for communication and information here: FRGs, the Mountaineer, DrumTV, Channel 13, the Fort Drum and Task Force Mountain websites, etc. But I keep hearing Soldiers and Families don't feel like they are informed of what's going on.

How do you get your information? What is the most effective way for me to get the community the information they need?

Morale - How are we doing? Some recent news articles have questioned the morale of our Soldiers and Families and their abillity to sustain themselves through an era of persistent conflict.

The CAB and Sustainment brigades have/are returning from long deployments... 1BCT was off-ramped from their OIF mission yet people are worried they will go to Afghanistan instead... 2BCT just departed for Iraq... I just visited with 3BCT Soldiers and while their OEF mission has been tough I think they are holding up very well.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the morale of the 10th Mountain Community.

They shared a lot of foxholes together and Jim has been looking for him for many a year and would like to get ahold of him. If you can, please help me reunite these two. Thank you Regards, Steve
